Ala Littoria S.A., Rome - Empire Line Rome-Asmara-Addis Ababa-Mogadishu - aviation poster 1935/36 - historic reprint from the 1970s 50x35 cm
- Condition:
Condition B (good) - 6.5/10. Historic-era reprint from the 1970s on glossy stock, not a modern newspaper-stand reprint. Central cross-shaped crease from original storage, clearly visible in the photos and typical of these posters. Art Deco colors are vivid, teal-green and ochre still intense. No tears, no holes, no restorations, no inscriptions. Corners intact. Light and even yellowing of the white print border, consistent with 50 years of age. White back is clean. See high-resolution photos, they are an integral part of the description.
- Origin:
Original poster from 1935/36 designed by graphic artist Umberto di Lazzaro for Ala Littoria S.A. - the Kingdom of Italy’s flag carrier airline, commissioned by the Ministry of Aviation to promote the Empire Line, the world’s longest air route at the time: Rome - Asmara - Addis Ababa - Mogadishu, established after the proclamation of the Empire of Italian East Africa. It depicts the Savoia-Marchetti S.73 trimotor flying over a camel. An icon of aeronautical Futurism and Italian colonialism. This is the prestigious and sought-after historic reprint from the 1970s, part of the “Ali d’Italia” series / Edizioni del Borghese, a limited edition numbered 1000 copies for collectors. Provenance: historical private collection from Veneto, stored in a dry folder for 40 years. The original lithograph (100x140 cm) is valued at €4,000-€8,000 and housed at the Aeronautical Museum of Vigna di Valle. I expressly declare that this is a historic reprint from the 1970s.
