• Dimensions of the work: 60x69; 41x50 framed outside the frame
The oil painting depicts a prealpine view of Lake Garda, executed by the famous Lombard master Giovanni Molteni (1898-1990), also known as the "pittore dell'Artide" for his historic participation in Umberto Nobile's polar expedition in 1928.
The work shows a dirt road in the foreground, framed by leafy trees, gently descending toward the calm waters of the lake lined with sailing boats. In the background stands the unmistakable profile of the Prealpine mountains, wrapped in a soft, diffused light that evokes the quiet atmosphere of late afternoon. The brushwork is tactile, vibrant, and rich in tonal values, typical of Molteni’s mature style and influenced by his Milanese milieu with Carrà, Sironi, and Tosi.
The painting is clearly signed at the bottom right "G. Molteni"; the handwriting, characterized by the distinctive dotted "G" and the soft extension of the following letters, fully confirms the attribution to the Lombard painter Giovanni "Gianni" Molteni (1898–1990), renowned for his landscapes.
It is presented with a magnificent and imposing period frame, carved and finished with a light decapature, perfectly contemporaneous, which greatly enhances the work.
