Description from the seller
Technique: Colour etching and aquatint with embossing
Artist: Gō (Tsuyoshi) Yayanagi (1933–2025)
Titled: “Gravure 4”
Ed: 60/120 - Japan - 2023
NO RESERVE !
An original limited-edition print by the renowned Japanese artist Gō Yayanagi, also known as Tsuyoshi Yayanagi.
The composition depicts an expressive flower rendered in delicate pink, green, yellow and black tones. The image combines softly textured areas with finely drawn details and embossed lines pressed into the paper.
The work was created using colour etching and aquatint, probably supplemented by drypoint and blind embossing. These intaglio techniques produce the characteristic grainy colour fields, recessed lines and subtle relief visible in the handmade paper.
The inscription in the lower-right corner appears to read “Gravure 4”, with gravure being the French term for an engraved or etched print. Below this is Yayanagi’s handwritten pencil signature. The work is numbered 60/120 in pencil at the lower left.
Gō Yayanagi was born in Obihiro, Hokkaido, in 1933. After travelling extensively through South America, Africa and Asia, he settled in Paris in 1965. There he studied copperplate etching at the influential Atelier 17 of Stanley William Hayter. Yayanagi later became known for his colourful and imaginative prints, paintings and designs, combining elements of Japanese visual culture with Western modernism and Pop Art.
His graphic oeuvre includes copperplate etching, aquatint, drypoint and silkscreen. His work has been exhibited internationally and is represented in several Japanese museum collections.
The handmade paper has attractive deckled edges and natural variations in its texture. Please examine the photographs carefully for the exact condition of the work.
The print will be carefully packaged and shipped with tracking.
