Description from the seller

Authentic French monastic craft masterpiece, handmade by the monks of the renowned Saint-Martin Abbey of Ligugé (Vienne).

This refined collectible piece represents the delicate profile of Our Lady of All Graces, after a 15th-century historic sculpture kept at the Musée des Augustins in Toulouse.

A rare and sought-after know-how

Ligugé enameling has enjoyed an international reputation for excellence since 1945. The complex technique of vitrified grand-fire enamel on a domed copper plate requires multiple firings at very high temperatures (nearly 800°C).

This demanding process gives the work a fascinating depth: the gold and bronze reflections wonderfully catch the light and contrast superbly with the intense, glossy black background.

Authenticity guaranteed: presence of original labels on the back ("Émail de Grand Feu édité par l'Abbaye de Ligugé") and signature in the form of the engraved monogram “SM” (Saint-Martin) in the lower right corner of the enameled plate.

Dimensions: light-colored wood frame of original size 22.5 x 20 cm (central enamel plate about 16.2 cm x 13.5 cm)

Exceptional Condition. The enamel is perfect, with no chips, cracks, or losses. The frame shows scratches but is original, stable, and equipped with its original brass hanger.

A timeless, high-quality piece, ideal for enriching a collection of religious art, a cabinet of curiosities, or to gift a object with a genuine spiritual and artistic soul.
