Italian school (XVIII) - Susanna e i Vecchioni

Note: First canvas and original frame.

Late 18th century

Oil on canvas depicting the biblical episode of Susanna and the Elders (Daniel 13). Susanna, seated beside a pillar in a garden, covers her bust with a drapery and turns her eyes toward the two elders who lean over her; one of them extends his hand in a gesture of insistence. In the foreground, on the base, vases and ointment jars recall the bath; in the distance, a metal amphora.

On the left a waterfall and a bright landscape in the distance, on the right an architectural element, in the background a dense backdrop of trees.
