Teixeira began his MMA career in 2002 and fought for WEC, Shooto and the UFC, among others. His greatest success came on October 30, 2021, when he defeated Pole Jan Błachowicz by submission at UFC 267 and won the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship. At 42, he became the oldest first-time UFC champion in history. He lost the title in 2022 in a spectacular fight against Jiří Procházka, which was recognized as one of the best fights of the year.
Among his most significant victories are wins over Rashad Evans, Ryan Bader, Anthony Smith, Thiago Santos, Aleksandar Rakić and Jan Błachowicz. He also fought Jon Jones in 2014 for the UFC title in the light heavyweight division. Teixeira was particularly known for his dangerous submissions and his ability to win fights even from difficult situations.
He ended his professional MMA career in 2023 with a record of 33 wins and 9 losses, including 18 knockout and 10 submission victories. In addition to winning the UFC championship, he received numerous Performance of the Night and Fight of the Night awards.
After retiring, Teixeira remained involved in MMA as a coach, and among others trained UFC champion Alex Pereira. With his late title win, his long career, and his successes against numerous top fighters, Glover Teixeira is considered one of the most respected figures in Brazilian MMA.
