Lot Description
A unique and exceptional set of 3 original volumes, numbered and signed by the author, coming directly from the intimate circle of the Nice Institute of Astrology (Yvonne Bélaz Collection).
This is a thematic set of off-market esoteric archives, consisting of Francis Rolt-Wheeler’s lectures and masterclasses, circulated in the form of confidential hand-typed manuscripts (reproductions from typing) for his students and initiates in 1936.
Details of the volumes included:
1. Volume 1: Summa Astrologicæ (First Tome)
• Elementary Astrology – Interpretation / Analysis and Synthesis.
• Astrosophie Editions, Cap-de-Croix, Nice, 1936.
• First edition, no. 33, signed in ink by Francis Rolt-Wheeler.
• Includes: A loose plate of astronomical calculations of the era ("Table of Proportional Logarithms" by Georges Muchery) annotated in pencil with planetary positions (Pisces, Aquarius).
2. Volume 2: Le Christianisme Ésotérique (Second Tome)
• The Life of Jesus of Nazareth – His Teaching.
• Astrosophie Editions, Cap-de-Croix, Nice, 1936.
• First edition, no. 15 (very low number), signed in ink by Francis Rolt-Wheeler.
3. Volume 3: Le Cabbalisme Initiatique (First Tome)
• The Esoteric Tarot – Major and Minor Arcana.
• Astrosophie Editions, Cap-de-Croix, Nice, 1936.
• Contains superb esoteric plates and diagrams (Tarot spreads, the great circle of the Schemhamphorasch).
• First edition, no. 28, signed in ink by Francis Rolt-Wheeler.
Museum piece included (Loose manuscript page):
The lot includes an original hand-written leaf from Francis Rolt-Wheeler’s notebook (signed with his monogrammed initial "R."). Titled “Divisions of the Soul in Egyptian Teaching (9 parts)”, it inventories the components of the soul (Sahu, Akhu, Ren, Ba, Ka, Khat...) articulated with Kabbalistic concepts (Neschamah, Ruach, Nephesch). A note in red pencil reads "Sum 9 (4)", indicating a working preparatory note for his courses.
Provenance and Binding:
Each volume opens with the printed homage page: “To Madame Yvonne Bélaz – Student and Collaborator.” Yvonne Bélaz was one of the pillars of the Rolt-Wheeler Institute in Nice.
She arranged the binding of the different course copies into a sumptuous, uniform library binding in red half-leather (genuine leather) with corners. The spine with false raised bands is richly adorned with gilt compartments, stylized esoteric fleurons, and title pieces in gold letters. The endpapers are marbled red and black “eye of the tiger” pattern. Printed in Nice by Société Générale d’Imprimerie.
Condition:
• Binding: Very good overall condition, leather well-nourished, gilding bright, slight wear typical of handling on edges and corners.
• Interior: Clean, aged paper slightly yellowed but solid. A few very rare pencil working annotations (notably astronomical calculations).
• Complete set of its off-text plates.
An esoteric archive set unavailable on the market, essential for the history of French occultism between the wars.
Dimensions: 27.7 cm × 21.5 cm.
Pagination: Approximately 900 pages in total for all three volumes (non-continuous pagination, distributed by independently printed lessons on the front side).
