AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

This antique gentleman’s pocket watch (circa 1920–1930) is an anonymous Swiss manufactured piece and a classic example of a robust open-face (lepine) model.

During this period it was very common for high-quality watches to be produced for independent retailers without brand names on the dial. The watch stands out for its functional dial with a double time indication: large Arabic numerals for the 12-hour cycle and a subtle 24-hour ring along the outer edge. At the 6 o’clock position is a classic sunk seconds hand.

The case is not made of silver, but of pure nickel. This is officially confirmed by the stamp 'PUR NICKEL' on the inside of the case back. Nickel was widely used at the time for so-called 'utility' watches due to its high scratch resistance and durability in daily use. The back of the case is beautifully finished with a fine guilloché pattern and features a diamond-shaped cartouche in the center that remains unengraved.

The mechanical Swiss lever escapement movement is nicely constructed with separate bridges and features a decorative perlage finish on the plates. The watch is equipped with a manual remontoir-wind system via the crown at the top. The rate can be adjusted manually via the regulator lever on the balance fork, marked with the traditional letters F/S and A/R. The entire movement is in neat, working condition.
