Description from the seller
This antique gentlemen's pocket watch is produced by the historic watch brand Union. The brand name 'Union' was registered in the early 20th century by the renowned Swiss manufacturer Adolphe Schild (AS) from Grenchen, at the time one of the leading producers of high-quality movements and ebauches. This particular specimen dates from the 1930s–1940s and is designed in the distinctive Art Deco style of that period. The two-tone silver and matte dial features stylized black Arabic numeral hour markers, a recessed seconds hand at the 6 o’clock position, and bears the inscriptions 'UNION' and 'ancre'. The deep-blue Breguet-style hands give the dial a striking and elegant appearance.
The mechanical movement is of high quality and is clearly marked on the gear train with the brand name 'UNION'. It is a Swiss anchor movement (ancre), which at the time was built by the Adolphe Schild factory and was renowned for its precision and reliability. The movement is furthermore equipped with the engraving 'NON-MAGNETIC', which at the time was an advanced technical innovation to protect the mainspring from magnetic fields. The movement features a manual remontoire winding system via the knurled crown at the top, and the running speed can be adjusted manually with the regulator lever. The pocket watch is in working condition.
The metal case has an open-face (lepine) construction with a beautifully striped vertical Art Deco motif on the rear cover. The suspension ring above the crown is intricately decorated with a classical floral relief. On the inside of the rear cover is the stamped unique serial number 42438. The case closes well, shows light and characteristic patina at the edges, and the dial is in a neat condition.
