Description from the seller
Early 18th-century Japanese porcelain plate from Arita. Made circa 1700.
The plate is cavetto-decorated with a flowerpot or vase containing blooming branches. On the rim, a decoration of the Three Friends of Winter: a blooming prunus, a bamboo, and a pine. The edge is encircled by an interesting frieze with a drippy decoration. The underside is undecorated and unglazed. It does, however, have four kiln-mark impressions from the pegs used during firing to keep the plates from the oven floor.
Dating: 1680-1720
Condition: a hairline across the base (see photos); otherwise excellent.
