AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Rare.

This beautiful bracelet from North Yemen, made by a Bedouin, is a rarity, because signed Yemeni jewelry is almost never found. The bracelet dates from the late 19th or early 20th century and probably comes from Sanaa, Yemen. The most remarkable feature is the maker's signature on the inside. The signature is in Arabic (قارحم؟), but it was likely that of a Jewish silversmith. A scratch test indicates the bracelet is made of high-quality silver.

This unique bracelet is adorned with three rows of floral motifs, separated by cords. The clasp is a screw closure that works perfectly.

It is in reasonable vintage condition, but with signs of wear. You can see that it has been worn and cherished a lot in the past!
See the photos for a realistic view.

Measurements:

2.5 cm wide
16 cm inner circumference
The inner diameter is 5 cm.
Weight 62 g

• Bawsani / Shumayla Style:
This traditional, delicate bracelet from Sana'a is characterized by refined open filigree work (shabk) and silver rosettes. They often have an inner diameter around 5 to 5.5 cm, which fits a narrow wrist ideally.
• The Signature: The signature of a Jewish silversmith is almost always subtly located on the inside of the bracelet. Sometimes the name is in Hebrew characters, but more often written in Arabic due to the laws or local market in Yemen at the time.
• Clasp: Antique models often use a hinge with a removable silver pin or a screw closure, allowing the bracelet to be worn directly snugly on a narrow wrist without needing to slide over the hand.
