Four original German military passes from the Imperial era, dating to 1880, in German, in fairly good condition, authentic and military context.
Description from the seller
4 x Original German Military Passport (military passport) from the Empire, presumably used during World War I.
What is a Militär-Paß?
This was the most important personal identification document for a German soldier at that time. It served as an official file in which the soldier’s entire military career was meticulously recorded.
Features on the cover:
• Reichsadler: At the top is the characteristic German eagle printed.
• Militär-Paß: Printed in the traditional Fraktur font.
• Jahresklasse: At the bottom is "Jahresklasse" indicating the draft class or the soldier’s year of birth.
• Infanterie: On the lower right the branch of service can still be read faintly (Infanterie).
What’s inside?
If you open the booklet, you will typically find handwritten pages with historical details, including:
• The personal data, place of birth and the soldier’s occupation.
• The branch of the army and the regiment in which he served.
• Promotions, received medals or distinctions.
• An overview of the possible battles and fronts (such as the Western or Eastern Front) where he fought.
• Any injuries, hospitalizations or transfers.
Such booklets are nowadays sought-after historical collectibles (militaria) because they provide a direct, personal insight into a soldier’s life during his military career and possible deployment during the Great War.
