Description from the seller

The work depicts a group of mallards and wild ducks gathered on the ice crust of a winter lake, immersed in an atmospheric landscape wrapped in fog and bare trees. Fischer here reveals all his sensitivity for Nordic nature painting: the composition stands out for the cold light reflections on the glassy surface of the lake and for the veristic rendering of the aquatic birds. The motif of animals portrayed on ice or snow represents one of the most felicitous, lyrical and expressive themes in Danish painting at the end of the 19th century. Theodor Fischer was one of Denmark's leading animal painters (dyremaler) at the turn of the 19th to the 20th century. Formation and Academic Honors: Trained at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts (Det Kongelige Danske Kunstakademi), he earned three times the famous Neuhausen Prize (De Neuhausenske Priser), one of the era's top Danish artistic honors. From 1880 to 1929 he exhibited regularly at the historic Charlottenborg exhibitions. The link with Royal Copenhagen: From 1894 he worked as a painter. His works and ceramics are housed and documented by important museum institutions, including the National Museum of Sweden (Stockholm), Designmuseum Danmark (Copenhagen), Statens Museum for Kunst / Kunstindeks Danmark (Official Catalogue of Danish Cultural Heritage). Canvas size: 43.5 × 56.5 cm. The signature is autograph and contemporary. It is mounted in a frame, to be considered a courteous gift and therefore not part of the artwork. The work belongs to an important private collection and authenticity and rightful provenance are guaranteed. No claims for damages during transport will be accepted, and shipping will nevertheless be careful and traceable.
