Description from the seller
Electric Square — 2026
Colored cardboard cut into modules and glued onto prepared wooden board, a frame on the back to create a wall-suspension effect.
Dimensions: 50 × 50 cm
With Electric Square, Marco Ercoli transfers the research on chromatic vibrations from a circular form to a square structure, built through four autonomous yet closely connected visual fields.
The work is composed of a dense succession of colored cardboard modules, cut and manually applied to the surface. The repetition of the elements creates a rhythmic and pulsating movement, in which color seems to move, expand, and bend following different trajectories.
Dividing the surface into four quadrants introduces a stricter cadence compared to the circular works of the series. Each sector develops its own center of tension, as if it were a small independent energy field, but together they maintain a strong unity thanks to the continuity of the weave and the dialogue between the different chromatic ranges.
Blue, turquoise, red, pink, yellow, green and more neutral tones visually overlap, creating transitions that change in relation to light and point of observation. The surface thus acquires an almost kinetic quality: what from afar appears as a compact composition, up close reveals the complexity of the manual work and the multitude of individual modules.
In Electric Square the contrast between the geometric rigidity of the format and the fluid movement of the inner forms becomes one of the central elements of the work. The square orders, delimites and contains; color, on the contrary, seems continually to seek to surpass its boundaries.
The work thus continues Ercoli's pursuit of a more essential and minimalist language, in which figuration yields space to color, rhythm, material, repetition and perception, inviting the observer to a direct, physical relationship with the surface.
The work is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
