Beautiful authentic wooden Buddha statue in the classic Mandalay style from Burma (the present-day Myanmar),
The Buddha is depicted in the seated Bhumisparsha mudra (earth-touching gesture) on an elevated pedestal. The statue is handcrafted from solid wood and finished with the traditional red undercoat and authentic gold leaf. The robe and the pedestal are richly decorated with raised relief work (thayo technique) and inlaid with original green and mirrored glass accents.
The statue is in good antique condition with a wonderfully patinated character. The natural wear of the gold leaf on the prominent parts (causing the red lacquer to show through) testifies to age and intensive devotional use. Also normal aging wear, e.g., in the colored glass.
