Description from the seller
David Law
Photographer Artist – Creator of contemporary images
Multidisciplinary photographer artist, author and musician, David Law develops work centered on gaze, presence and perception of the image in urban space. He first became known for a series devoted to storefront mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superimpositions. This exploration of gaze and presence gave birth to an art book published in 2021. Subsequently intrigued by the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he continues this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate models gain a troubling, almost living presence, questioning our relationship to illusion and projection.
New series – Walls of legends
This series pays tribute to iconic figures who have marked history, music, cinema and popular culture. Each portrait, reduced to essentials, captures in a few powerful contrasts an identity immediately recognizable. Realized with contemporary digital tools and then transposed into a stencil aesthetic, the works sit within the tradition of street art, between spontaneity and mastery of gesture. Deep black and raw surfaces evoke direct wall intervention, while the imperfections and textures reinforce their urban character. Between collective memory and visual expression, this series offers a timeless reading of icons who continue to inhabit our imagination.
Edition & Fabrication
Each work is offered in a limited edition of 8 numbered copies + 4 artist’s proofs (A.P.), signed by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The prints are made on aluminum with integrated back mounting. Print on bright white vinyl, counter-attached between two aluminum plates, with soft UV- and humidity-resistant lamination, guaranteeing excellent durability, great long-term resistance, color stability and a modern and contemporary rendering
Parcours
Since 2014, David Law participates in about twenty contemporary art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also a photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. Alongside his visual work, he develops work as an author and musician including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a graphic novel, a photo book and 5 self-produced CDs. A singer and guitarist, he currently performs with the group FRENZY.
