Description from the seller
Crypto Rock Series - Reconstituting a photograph using photos of the represented artist.
Artist Photographer – Creator of contemporary images
Multidisciplinary photographer-artist, author and musician, David Law develops work focused on gaze, presence and the perception of the image in urban space. He first became known for a series devoted to shop window mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superimpositions. This exploration of gaze and presence gave birth to an art book published in 2021. Later, drawn to the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he extends this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate models acquire a troubling, almost living presence, challenging our relationship to illusion and projection.
The Crypto series offers a contemporary reinterpretation of cultural icons through an immersive and vibrant pop art aesthetic. Each work rests on a mosaic construction made of thousands of photos of the artist or the theme. From afar, the image reveals a recognizable figure, while up close it reveals a richness of visual details. Each fragment acts like a “wave,” evoking the artistic universe of the subject depicted. The creation process is long and demanding, requiring precision and mastery of graphic tools. Thorough work is carried out on colors, light and the overall harmony of the image. Everything is created in an original and independent manner.
Edition & Manufacture
Each work is presented in a limited edition of 8 numbered copies + 4 artist proofs (A.P.), signed by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The prints are made on aluminum with an integrated rear hanger. Printed on luminous white vinyl, laminated between two aluminum plates, with soft UV- and humidity-resistant lamination, guaranteeing excellent durability, great long-term resistance, color stability and a modern, contemporary finish.
Parcours
Since 2014, David Law participates in about twenty contemporary art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also the appointed photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. In parallel with his visual activity, he develops an author-musician body of work including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a graphic novel, a photo book and 5 self-produced CDs. A singer-guitarist, he currently performs with the group FRENZY.
