Statue, Heilige Maria met kindje Jezus - 61 cm - Wood

Beautiful decorative hand-carved wooden statue of Mary with the Child Jesus (also known as a Madonna and Child). Probably Spanish, circa 1950-1960.

The statue has a distinctive vertical, elongated form that is often carved from a single solid log or post. Mary is depicted with a crown on her head, while tenderly holding the Christ Child. This particular type of woodcarving was widely produced in Europe in the 20th century (often around the middle of the century, ca. 1950) and is a popular collectible within religious folk art.
