Antique brass coal iron from 1930–1940 with a solid brass body and wooden handle, in excellent condition, Art Nouveau style, Italian origin, measuring 16 cm high and 16 cm deep.
Description from the seller
splendid and refined antique coal-fed iron, entirely made of solid heavy brass with excellent artisanal craftsmanship from the first half of the 20th century.
This model clearly stands out from the classic and common cast-iron irons for its elegant aesthetics: the brass body features a beautiful and rich raised decoration on both sides, characterized by a floral motif with rose buds and finely worked leaves. The upper border is finished with a wavy ornamental motif (festoon).
Mechanism and Interior:
The sturdy structure provides a hinge joint on the rear side and a liftable opening at the front. The front closure is secured by its original lever hook, perfectly intact, smooth and functioning, which keeps the lid securely locked in the resting position.
As visible in the photographs with the lid raised, the interior of the coal chamber is in impeccable condition: it is completely clean, free of coarse incrustations or oxide bloom. The side ventilation holes are perfectly clear and symmetrical, originally designed to guarantee the oxygen flow to the coals. The lid seam fits millimeter-perfect with the lower body, demonstrating that the structure has not suffered any deformation from heat or impacts over time.
The handle is the original turned wood from the period, solid, stable and free of cracks or woodworm trails.
The piece presents itself in museum-grade conservative and excellent condition, with a splendid natural patina of time that enhances its authenticity and historical value. A superb collectible piece, ideal as an exclusive decorative object for rustic, vintage, or upscale interiors.
