This Dutch Art Nouveau wall-mounted newspaper rack, made of oak and copper, dates from 1900–1910.
Description from the seller
Antique Jugendstil wall newspaper rack / mail holder – oak wood with repoussé red-copper floral plate "Dagbladen"
Particularly atmospheric and authentic newspaper rack or mail holder for wall mounting, dating from the early 20th century (circa 1900–1910). The piece is executed in a clearly Dutch or Central European Jugendstil style.
The main frame is fully crafted from solid oak with a beautifully seasoned wood grain and a chamfered (slightly curved) upper edge.
The front features a large, heavy plate of repoussé red-copper (or bronze-colored copper) with the text "Dagbladen" in a typcially stylized Jugendstil typeface. The plate is richly decorated with relief-embossed floral motifs, including detailed roses and daisies with vine tendrils. The lower edge is finished with a decorative geometric copper strip.
On the rear, the oak panel is traditionally constructed with mortise-and-tenon joints. The piece is equipped with two heavy, original copper hanging eyes for a sturdy wall attachment. A beautiful functional antique piece for a classic hall or study.
In excellent and solid antique condition. The copperwork has a fantastic, deep, untouched patina with minimal signs of aging (slight oxidation in the grooves). The oak is solid and shows no active woodworm or major damage. A few light superficial scratches consistent with an age of well over a century. See the detail photos for an accurate view.
Carefully packed and shipped with track & trace.
