Rom av.JC - Deus Mars

Deus Mars – Rom av.JC – Original work on skateboard (2024)

Deus Mars is an original work created in 2024 by the French artist Rom av.JC (Romain Hurdequint), from an old damaged skateboard.

Restored with resin and then painted with acrylic, this skateboard becomes the support for a contemporary representation of Mars, the Roman god of war.

Inspired by ancient iconography, the composition presents a masculine face crowned with a richly ornate helmet. The black drawing contrasts with the exposed wood and the painted surfaces, while a wide crack runs horizontally across the face.

This rupture, reinforced with resin, remains deliberately visible. It bears witness to the material history of the skateboard and contributes to the artwork’s aesthetics, between archaeological relic, sculpture, and contemporary painting.

Through its universe of fictional archaeology, Rom av.JC distorts the codes of Antiquity to create objects that seem to have traversed the centuries, while preserving traces of their first life in skateboard culture.
