Qur'an - Bihar India is a single illuminated Arabic folio from around 1425, by an unknown author.
Description from the seller
An exceptional illuminated large form folio from a Quran originating in the state of Bihar, India during the Sultanate period, c.1425. It contains Scripture from chapter 25 Al-Furqan (The Decisive Authority), v.59-62. The scripture highlights God's (Allah's) absolute power as the Creator, the arrogance of disbelievers, and the signs of divine order in the cosmos.
It is written in a Arabic naskh script, with black ink and red diactritical markings to guide the devotee through prayer. In this case there are 11 lines of bold Bihari script with elaborate gold 'aya' marking the verses and several 'Allah' in burnished gold thuluth font. The folio has an elaborate decorative marginal, in outstanding condition, marking the 60th verses of the chapter. In this case it also signifies the obligatory prostration (sajda) at this verse.
The folios palette and geometric vocabulary reflect the broader Islamic decorative style transmitted via Persian and Arabic manuscript culture into the Indian Sultanate courts.
Please note that shipping costs are not solely the cost of the postal delivery service itself. Included within the shipping price is the work undertaken to prepare the article, for photography, for uploading to Catawiki, for preparation and packaging the article securely and for transporting the article to the postal delivery agent for processing.
Also, please consider when bidding on this lot that this artwork is shipped from the UK. Import duties will now have to be paid by the recipient to the Postal Service when the parcel arrives in your country. This will likely vary between 5% and 20% of the sale price depending on your country's Import Rate, so please do check this if you are concerned. This is a Tax collected on behalf of your Government and is not an additional fee charged by us.
New German customs regulations mean that we are now having to pay customs before the item leaves the UK. Regrettably we have to pass these costs on through a surcharge on postage to Germany. As we don't know the final auctions costs we have estimated the approximate value. If the custom costs more than we have anticipated, we will absorb the additional customs duty.
