Magnificent, monumental and heavy antique putto (musical cherub) from the 19th century, executed in the rich Baroque Revival style (Historicism). This sculpture is completely hand-carved from a single solid piece of wood (with the exception of the wings, which, in accordance with historical tradition, are professionally mounted with wooden dowels).
The angel is highly detailed and expressively carved while playing a lute. The figure weighs no less than 5 kilograms, testament to the solid, heavy quality of the woodcarving. The finish consists of an authentic, layered polychrome paint scheme, giving the piece a magnificent, well-worn patina. Very likely originating from a prestigious religious woodcarving workshop in South Germany or Northern Italy (Val Gardena).
Condition:
In good, authentic antique condition with characteristic signs of aging that add to the charm. There are early shrinkage cracks in the wood and in the paint layers, visible.

Shipping is possible but somewhat complex. The wings are fragile. For transport they could possibly be disassembled. Caution advised. This may cause small [repairable] damage. Caution to the buyer.
