Description from the seller
Proferio Grossi (1923–2000) – Still life with bottles, books and objects, 1986
Interesting oil painting on a rigid support, attributed to the Italian painter Proferio Grossi, born in Vignale di Traversetolo (Parma) in 1923 and who passed away in Parma in 2000.
The work, dated 1986, depicts a refined still life executed with great painterly precision, characterized by illusionistic effects typical of trompe-l'œil technique.
The composition presents bottles of different shapes and colors, an elegant blue glass vase, a candlestick, antique books, an apple, writing implements and an antique pistol.
In the background there is a small painting depicting a gondola in the Venetian lagoon, a detail that enriches the composition by creating a suggestive play of images.
The palette, dominated by grey, blue and brown tones, is enlivened by the intense red of the bottles and by an accurate study of lights and reflections.
