MEDSAN - Ken at the Arcade (ゲームセンターのケン) - UNIQUE WORK

THERE IS ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD - EDITION 1/1

On this square format, Medsan shows a street at night after rain, in front of the illuminated window of an arcade hall. Inside, Ken, the blonde Street Fighter fighter, stands with his back to us. He wears his sleeveless red gi and black belt, barefoot on a green and cream checkered floor. Leaning over the Street Fighter II arcade unit marked Capcom, gloved hands resting on the controls, he fixes the screen where his doppelgänger faces a brown-clad opponent in a blue kimono. Next to it, the Space Invaders and Mortal Kombat cabinets remain off, in front of empty stools with red seats. A neon tube light bathes the dark green walls in a pale glow, a “PLAY MORE GAMES” poster hangs in the back, and on the right-side door glass, we read “ARCADE – GAMES, PINBALL, PRIZES, ALL AGES.” Outside, a street lamp casts a yellow halo on dark brick façades, and the wet sidewalk reflects the hall’s light. The red of the gi bursts among the greens, blacks, and ochres. It is the late hour when a fighter plays alone against himself.

A nocturnal room filled with nostalgia, ideal to bring a retro gaming culture touch to the interior of a video game collector as well as a contemporary art connoisseur.

About Medsan / Popsan:
Medsan and Popsan are two signatures of the same artist. Under the name Medsan, he explores the realm of medicine and anatomy; under Popsan, he revisits pop culture icons by blending pop art, Japanese art, and anachronisms. On Catawiki, his pop works still appear under the name Medsan, but they belong to the Popsan universe. He creates at the Atelier Joconde, a family artists’ workshop, alongside Le Yack (figurative painting) and Neo Pablo (abstraction).
