Description from the seller
ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD EXISTS - EDITION 1/1
On this square format, Medsan places Calcifer, the fire demon from Howl's Moving Castle of the Studio Ghibli, nestled in a blue-decorated bowl on a white background, set in the middle of a puddle under a pouring rain. With round, wide-open eyes and a mouth split in a broad smile, he lifts a large green leaf above his head to use as an umbrella, and the tip of this leaf is already starting to catch fire. His orange-vermillion body is crisscrossed with a network of wide golden lines, and a few sparks rise along his sides. The bowl, adorned with scrollwork and blue flowers, is also etched with golden lines where the flames spill over. Sparks flicker around him, small flames dance at the ends of his hands, and the puddle reflects orange glints in circles of dark water. The night-blue background is streaked with long rain trails. Bottom right, the cartouche メドサン. A stubborn little flame that refuses to go out in the rain.
A warm piece full of humor, ideal for bringing a touch of Japanese light to an interior belonging to a Ghibli-loving collector.
