Chinese porcelain ginger jar with lid, decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with prunus blossoms and a cracked-ice pattern in Kangxi style, dating to 1900–1910.
Description from the seller
Antique Chinese blue-and-white porcelain ginger jar with lid – Prunus & 'Cracked Ice' décor – Kangxi style, Late Qing / Early Republic (c. 1890-1920)
Description:
For sale: A beautifully executed and characteristic Chinese porcelain ginger jar, complete with its accompanying lid. The jar is hand-decorated with the iconic and highly loved prunus motif (plum blossom) against a background of vivid cobalt blue 'cracked ice'.
This specific décor symbolises the coming of spring and the transition from winter, and is rendered in the classical Kangxi-period style (1662-1722).
At the base the jar features an unglazed stand ring with a hand-painted mark of an empty, double blue circle (double ring mark). This type of mark and the thicker, solid body indicate skilled production for the export market during the late Qing dynasty or the early Republic period.
Specifications:
• Material: Chinese porcelain
• Decoration: Hand-painted underglaze cobalt blue (Prunus on cracked ice)
• Dating: Late Qing dynasty / Early Republic (c. late 19th century to early 20th century)
• Height: approx. 17 cm (including lid)
• Weight: 540 grams
• Mark: Empty double blue circle on the underside
Condition: The ginger jar and lid are in good antique condition with normal signs of aging on the stand ring. No restorations, no cracks, nor chips. See the detail photos for your own precise assessment.
