Description from the seller
Title: Beyond the Mask
Artist: M. Perone
Technique: Oil on canvas
Dimensions: 40 x 30 cm
A female figure occupies the painted space with an enigmatic presence, defined by a tall top hat, a pale band across the face, and a long gloved hand resting on the cheek. One blue eye remains visible, immediately capturing attention and establishing a direct relationship with the observer. The lips, in a deep orange-red, form the main warm accent within a palette dominated by grays, muted greens, and ivory whites.
The composition is built through a refined play of concealment and revelation. The hat casts a shadow on the forehead, while the band interrupts the continuity of the features, turning the portrait into an image with theatrical and surreal character. Subtle dark marks run across the glove and the light fabric, recalling the vertical and crossed traces of the top hat. The side light shapes the face and fingers, leaving the right side immersed in shadow. The whole suggests a guarded identity, entrusted to the power of the gaze and to the suspension of the gesture.
