Description from the seller
A crouching male wooden figure, typologically traceable to the tradition of the bulul of the Ifugao people of the Cordillera Central, Luzon, in the Philippines.
The figure has a crouched posture with the arms along the knees, a distinctive shape of the head, and incised geometric decorations. There are holes in the earlobes and a pronounced decorative structure along the back.
The sculpture is made of wood and preserves a natural patina and signs of manual workmanship. Cracks, cavities, holes, and other signs of wear and aging of the wood are visible.
The typology is compatible with bulul figures traditionally associated with protection of rice crops and storage in granaries. The specific ritual function, origin, dating, and authenticity of the piece must be verified by an expert.
Dimensions: 36 × 14.5 × 10 cm.
Sold as shown in photographs.
