About the artist
Abdoul Ouattara (ARTBYABD) born in 1995, lives and works in Paris. Painter, drawing has accompanied me since childhood, and painting has become my language: a way to express emotions and truths that words cannot reach.
my work explores memory and identity. I believe that we are all assemblages of cultures, experiences, dreams, fears and memories, and each portrait becomes one: elements that dialogue and coexist, where the face becomes a landscape and the outside reflects the inside. My central subjects are African identity, culture and symbols, but I also paint animals, the streets of Paris, the nature of childhood memories and dreamed landscapes. I draw inspiration from old paintings, where each element and each color has a precise meaning.
Each work is entirely painted by hand: the canvas is prepared with several layers of gesso, then the image is built in successive layers of impasto, glazes and mixed media, with acrylic for the bases and oil to refine.
