Corneille’s hand-signed original mixed-media work *Zeedijk, Amsterdam* dates from 1944 and is sold framed.
Description from the seller
Beautiful very early pencil drawing by Corneille titled 'Zeedijk (Amsterdam)' from 1944. Bring a museum piece into your home with this unique work by one of the Netherlands' greatest artists.
Corneille lived in Amsterdam during the war years and after, until about 1950, where he attended the art and craft school and the Rijksacademie (where he also met Karel Appel, just after the war in 1945). In 1946 he had his first solo exhibition in Groningen. In 1947 Corneille traveled to Paris together with Karel Appel and in 1948 the CoBrA art movement was founded.
Corneille was only 22 years old when he made this beautiful drawing; it is rare for such an early work of one of the Netherlands' best-known artists to become available for a private collection.
The provenance of this work is guaranteed by Foundation Guillaume Corneille. It comes with a certificate signed by Mrs N. (Natacha) Van Beverloo (Natacha Suzanne Laktionoff), widow of Corneille.
The drawing measures 37 x 26 cm. When framed, the dimensions are approximately 60 cm high and 50 cm wide in the current original frame (with Art Glass) as framed by Corneille and his wife themselves.
Of course our framing workshop can reframe this artwork entirely to your own specifications.
