AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Old Domino Game in Bone and Ebony – 19th Century / Early 20th Century.

Rare and elegant antique classic domino set, model "Double-Six" (Duplo Seis), consisting of 28 complete pieces. Each piece features refined artisanal construction with a dual-layer structure, the upper face carved from natural bone plate fixed in the traditional way by small central brass pins (spinners) over a dense ebony/jacarandá wood base. The pips are individually carved and filled with dark pigment.

Excellent state of preservation for its antique age. It shows natural patina marks and organic tone variations in the bone, historic oxidation on the metal pins, and a slight and honest wear on the edges of the wooden box, factors that attest to its authenticity and period use.

Seller's Story

Antiques are my enormous passion; all the items I have up for auction were found at antique fairs and from antique dealers mainly in the Lisbon area, but also from the rest of Portugal. Only pieces of good quality, distinctly original and obviously beautiful. Quality guarantee and very careful shipping of the pieces. ATTENTION: If you are interested in one of my pieces that has a reserve price, please note that I will absolutely not offer it for less than 80% of the reserve value of the piece. And I should also note that if that piece is not sold here on Catawiki, I will sell it at another auction house, so if you’re really interested in any of my pieces, buy it when you see it the first time. Thank you very much
