Description from the seller

ORIGINAL - ONE OF A KIND (1/1) - IN ITS BLACK FLOATER FRAME, READY TO HANG, GOLD LEAF...

On this square ceramic, Medsan brings a geisha into the blue-and-white world of old porcelain. Seen to the waist and turned slightly aside, she wears her blue-black hair pinned high with golden combs, long hairpins and clusters of blue and white flowers, her lips painted red and her gaze lowered to one side. Her kimono, deep cobalt patterned with white waves and a large chrysanthemum, opens on a red and ivory collar, and in her raised hand she holds a folding fan of gold and blue against her chest. A fine crackle pattern, part of the decoration, runs across the ivory ground, and thick veins of gold, standing in relief, cross it from edge to edge: one passes just beneath her eyes, others run down through the fan and the kimono, swelling into knots wherever they meet. Its title, Ōgi, is the Japanese word for the folding fan.

The piece is a ceramic with a porcelain-style blue decoration, gilded in the spirit of kintsugi, the Japanese art of the golden seam: every vein is laid in gold epoxy resin and finished by hand with gold leaf. What you receive is the ceramic itself, and since each line of gold was laid by hand, no other piece like it exists.

It comes already mounted in its black floater frame, arrives ready to hang, and is accompanied by its certificate of authenticity.

The piece is now offered exclusively on Catawiki.

It will speak to collectors who love Japanese art, its geishas and the gold of kintsugi.

About Medsan / Popsan:
Medsan and Popsan are two signatures of one and the same artist. As Medsan, he explores the world of medicine and anatomy; as Popsan, he revisits the icons of popular culture, blending pop art, Japanese art and anachronisms. On Catawiki, his pop works still appear under the name Medsan, but they belong to the Popsan universe. He works within Atelier Joconde, a family artists' studio, alongside the artists Le Yack (figurative painting) and Neo Pablo (abstraction).
