Description from the seller
Mid-Century French - A. Guillot (20th century) - Abstraction - 1959
This work is an abstract expressionist painting from its era (mid-20th century), fully aligned with the currents of Lyric Abstraction and Action Painting.
The signature at the bottom right reads very distinctly « a. guillot », accompanied by the date of its creation, « 59 » for 1959.
Here we are in the very heart of the glorious era of the Second School of Paris and of gestural abstraction in the 1950s.
The work echoes the works of major artists of the time such as Georges Mathieu, Hans Hartung or Pierre Soulages.
The pictorial act is purely physical and instinctive: projections, splashes and violent brushstrokes create an explosion of colors (reds, yellows, blues and whites) that burst from a deep and opaque black background.
Artwork sold in its period frame showing some signs of wear.
Careful, tracked shipping.
