Description from the seller
Hermann Fischer-Roloff – “Sächsische Schweiz” – Mixed media on cardboard, in an original glass frame
This atmospheric landscape painting depicts the impressive rock landscape of Saxon Switzerland in a calm, clear, and nature-oriented portrayal. Hermann Fischer-Roloff combines here precise natural observation with a reduced, essential-form language that is characteristic of his figurative works in the post-war period.
The painting was executed in a mixed technique – presumably tempera combined with additional layers of color – and features a matte, finely nuanced surface. The composition appears balanced and conveys a quiet, meditative atmosphere.
Framing & Condition
The work is presented in a high-quality, period-appropriate frame that is unusually well matched to the painting both in color and style. The frame underscores the tranquil, nature-connected mood of the portrayal.
What is particularly noteworthy is the original glazing, which has optimally protected the delicate mixed technique for decades. As a result, the painting is in exceptionally good condition. Both the painting and the frame show only minimal signs of aging, which significantly increases the work’s appeal.
Dimensions
With frame: approx. 53.5 × 43.5 × 2.5 cm
Without frame (in the passe-partout): approx. 38 × 26 cm
Stylistic classification
Realism / classical landscape painting
Mixed media on cardboard
Post-war art / Mid-Century
Reduced, clear form language
