This set of two bronze sculptures from India, titled “2 Bronze Sculptures – Saraswati with a Stringed Instrument and Hindu Dancing Couple – India – 2,730 g”, dates from the second half of the 20th century.
Description from the seller
For sale is a decorative set of two intricately crafted bronze sculptures with Hindu motifs. Both figures come from an inherited private collection of Asian art objects.
The larger sculpture presumably depicts the Hindu goddess Saraswati, revered as the goddess of wisdom, arts, and music.
The four-armed figure holds a long stringed instrument reminiscent of a veena. She stands in a dynamic pose with a bent leg. Beside her is a stylized bird, possibly a swan or goose.
Particularly notable are the artistically worked headdress, the multi-layered necklace, the finely textured clothing, and the richly decorated, multi-tiered pedestal with pierced lotus decoration.
The second sculpture shows two closely connected, dancing figures on an oval pedestal. The representation recalls a Hindu divine couple, possibly Shiva and Parvati.
Both figures wear elaborately designed headgear, jewelry, and traditional garments. The dynamic body posture and interlocking arrangement give the sculpture a lively aura.
Dimensions and weight:
Saraswati with string instrument:
- Height: approx. 24 cm

Please note the numerous close-up photos that are part of the condition description.
The sculptures come from an inherited private collection. The exact age and the workshop that produced them are not known.
The two sculptures are sold together as the pictured set.
