Biography of the painter:

Robert Puigmartí Valls, artistically known as Rubert, is a Catalan painter born in 1934 in Monistrol de Calders, Barcelona. His artistic career is framed within Catalan figurative painting of the second half of the 20th century, with particular interest in landscapes, rural scenes, and traditional Mediterranean settings.

Brother of the renowned painter Josep Puigmartí Valls (1932-2020), Robert developed a personal body of work, characterized by the depiction of towns, streets and popular corners, as well as genre scenes.

His painting stands out for the use of oil on canvas, with figurative compositions that evoke popular architecture and daily life.

His artistic language can be situated within the Catalan landscape and genre-scene tradition, with a sensitivity to light, color, and the atmosphere of the depicted scenes.

Linked for decades to the town of Sitges, where he had already been based for about thirty years by 2006, Puigmartí carried out part of his artistic activity in this important Mediterranean cultural hub. One of his works, Matinada Punta Gaviota d'Aiguadolç, dated 2002, is part of the Sitges Town Hall art collection.

His work has been present in exhibitions and in the Spanish art market. In 1996 he participated in a painting exhibition alongside David Font, and several of his compositions have subsequently appeared at auctions, including Calle de pueblo, Pueblo and La siesta.
