Jan Knikker (1889-1957) - Boerderij aan het water

Atmospheric painting by Jan Knikker, 1889-1957, in a beautifully kept frame with inlay.
This painting is in excellent condition; there are no restorations or overpaintings.
Jan Knikker Sr., 1889-1957, was a member of the Knikker family.
He studied under his older brother Aris, and later his son Jan Knikker Jr. also became an artist.
Initially he worked in Hillegom and Leiden but moved to The Hague in 1914.
The loose brushwork and atmospheric rendering of nature are closely related to the Hague School, with painters such as J.H. Weissenbruch and P.J.C. Gabriel.
As a result, his evocative, impressionistic landscapes are regarded as part of the late bloom of the Hague School.
