John (Bethsaida, circa 6 AD – Ephesus, 101 AD or the years immediately following) was an apostle of Jesus. Christian tradition identifies him with the author of the Gospel of John, and for this he is also attributed the epithet of the Evangelist. He is considered a Myrobite saint. According to the narratives of the canonical gospels, he was the son of Zebedee and Salome and the brother of the apostle James the Greater. Before following Jesus, he was a disciple of John the Baptist.

The reliquary does not contain human remains.
