Description from the seller
HAL SUNDAY (1930) - Chin in Hands - Acrylic painting · Hand-signed · 2026
Here, a young woman with auburn hair rests her face in her hands. Her gaze fixes the viewer, lips slightly parted, in an expression between tiredness and waiting. The right half of the face tilts into cool greenish grays, while the left remains warm and rosy, as if the light hesitated. Behind her, a blue background and a pale window evoke a room in which something is awaited.
One thinks of Vuillard's portraits, who knew how to make a face into an inner landscape, and of the sobriety of Bacon's figures for the tension in the gaze. A painting of reverie, where thought is read on the face without ever being spoken.
Technique: mixed media — original acrylic painting, varnished.
Support: premium canvas stretched on a wooden frame, ready to hang.
Format: 40 × 60 cm.
Signed HAL SUNDAY · Galerie Labo Joconde / Atelier Joconde · certificate of authenticity provided.
HAL SUNDAY is one of the creations bringing together artists Le Yack, Neo Pablo and Popsan within Atelier Joconde, a family studio where three sensibilities coexist: neorealism, pop, and free figuration. Under the name HAL SUNDAY, the Atelier revives the muted American 1930s-40s and the heritage of Edward Hopper: solitary figures, natural light shaping the moment, inhabited silences and restrained melancholy, in the lineage of American scene painting.
Each work is a unique piece.
