Description from the seller

Set of two original watercolors by Eduardo Martínez Vázquez (1886-1971), a Spanish painter particularly attached to the representation of the landscapes and architectures of his country.
These two works form a particularly harmonious pairing, dedicated to the landscapes of Spain.
One offers a wide perspective of a river winding through crops and hills. The painter deploys a luminous palette of ochres, earth tones, greens and pinkish hues, allowing the paper to breathe to convey the dry light and the expanse of the Spanish landscape.
The other watercolor adopts a closer, more architectural composition: a village street lined with tiled-roof houses rises gently toward the light. The deep shadows in the foreground contrast with the sunlit façades, in a subtle range of browns, red earths, grays and ochres.
The set testifies to a beautiful mastery of watercolor, notably in the use of the paper’s reserves, transparent washes and the more nerve-like brushstrokes intended to suggest vegetation, stones and terrain features.
The works are signed, with inscriptions also visible on the lower part of one of the watercolors. They are presented under matting in two matching white frames, allowing them to be displayed together. A beautiful pair of two Spanish landscapes, appealing both for its decorative unity and for the spontaneity and brightness characteristic of landscape watercolor.
Each watercolor measures 30x45 with the frame.
