This painted cork lapwing hunting decoy dates from the early twentieth century.
Description from the seller
Ancient painted cork hunting partridge – Early 20th century
An interesting folk-art hunting artifact, depicting a partridge, made from shaped and painted cork. The figure features an elegant, elongated silhouette, with a thin beak, a circular eye, and a characteristic dark plumage, contrasted by light details on the chest and neck.
The quality of shaping and the stylized rendering give the object notable period charm, testifying to the artisanal tradition tied to hunting. Produced in the early decades of the 20th century, presumably between 1900 and 1930.
It preserves a lived-in patina, with wear and losses of paint consistent with age. An interesting piece for collectors of hunting calls, rural objects, and period folk art. It should be noted that the stem and base are not part of the stamp’s equipment; they were used for the photos.
