Roger Forissier (1924-2003) was a French painter, engraver and lithographer associated with the New School of Paris and the post-war Young Painting movement. Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts de Lyon and then at the Paris school, he settled permanently in Reuilly, in the Indre, a Berry terroir that profoundly inspired his work throughout his life. A figurative artist, he is chiefly recognized for his landscapes imbued with poetry, his still lifes and his portraits with rigorous compositions, where light plays a central role. His style is characterized by structured brushstrokes and a subtle palette that capture the essence of nature and French rural life. He regularly exhibited in the major Paris salons, notably the Salon d’Automne of which he was an active member, as well as internationally, especially in Japan and the United States. Alongside his painting, he produced significant illustration work for bibliophilic books and designed stained glass windows for several religious buildings.
