Bust, (After) Jean-Antoine Houdon: Louise Brongniart - 25 cm - Bronze

Jean-Antoine Houdon (After).
Bronze bust of Louise Brongniart

This bronze bust with a medallion patina depicts Louise Brongniart, the celebrated child immortalized by sculptor Jean-Antoine Houdon.

Louise Brongniart was the daughter of the architect Alexandre-Théodore Brongniart (1739–1813), who designed the Palais Brongniart in Paris, then home of the Paris Bourse.

The original model was created by Houdon in 1777 and remains one of his most extraordinary childhood portraits.

The young girl is depicted with great delicacy in the treatment of the face, the hairstyle and the bust, reflecting the elegance of Houdon’s neoclassical model.
