This early 20th-century Paquet Maelzel metronome is made of wood and has been tested and is in working order.
Description from the seller
Hello, here is a superb old MAELZEL metronome. It was made by the French company Paquet. Wood of very high quality. It is very likely mahogany. It is very dark. A few minor time-related flaws. It dates from the early 20th century. It functions. It is a very beautiful collectible object that was probably used by a musician about 100 years ago.
22 cm tall.
History of Paquet:
In France, the main manufacturer and distributor of Maëlzel metronomes was named Jean-Baptiste Paquet, a Parisian artisan-horologist active in the 19th century.
He manufactured the metronomes under Maëlzel's licence.
Hence the inscription found on the French models:
« Maelzel – Paquet »
This marking means:
Maëlzel = the conceptual owner of the patent
Paquet = the French manufacturer/operator
"System of metronome Johan Maelezel (1772-1838) early 1900s. It is an instrument used to measure the tempo of music. The sound of the pendulum signals with precision the speed of performance. The instrument consists of a pendulum with counterweights which works with a clockwork mechanism with gears moved by a spring. The rod placed at the front with counterweights is activated by the clockwork mechanism which, through its oscillations, marks the passage of time. The instrument is housed in a wooden pyramid-shaped case with a metal plaque, probably tin, on the front and the name engraved of the inventor: the Austrian physicist J.N. Maelezel. Among the first to use this type of instrument: there were Ludwig van Beethoven."} } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } }
