Description from the seller
Hortense Bataille-Watkins lives and works in Marseille. After studies at the École des Beaux-Arts de Caen and in several Parisian studios, she deepened her practice in watercolor, oil, and dry pastel for seven years in the United States alongside renowned American and Spanish painters, including Sebastian Capella, Joan Grine, and Wolf Kahn.
Nourished by gardens, landscapes, living nature, and Mediterranean shores, her universe does not seek to reproduce reality. Hortense interprets it with poetry, at the border between figuration and dreamlike, to reveal its full vitality.
Her signature is distinguished by bold assemblages and a radiant palette: almost fluorescent anis green, lemon yellows, sharp yellows, and turquoise or indigo blues respond to each other in a real fireworks of colors. Each shade is chosen with extreme delicacy, in order to make the canvas vibrate and evoke an immediate emotion.
Elegant, feminine and deeply dreamlike, her painting offers a sense of happiness, as if nature suddenly floods our view with light and joy. An invitation to immediate happiness.
She has recently trained in art therapy and now leads intuitive painting workshops, offering a space for emotional expression, release, and guided creative exploration driven by intuition.
The artist captures the entire softness of a summer on the Côte d’Azur. In the foreground, a turquoise-tinted pool opens onto a landscape of pines and Mediterranean vegetation, while in the distance the sea blends with the sky.
Deep and luminous blues occupy a central place in the composition, punctuated by the intense greens of the foliage and the orange touches of the sun loungers. Clean lines and flat fields of color give the scene a graphic, contemporary dimension.
This canvas evokes a suspended moment, between warmth, calm, and southern light. A bright and soothing work that invites escape and brings into an interior all the atmosphere of a Mediterranean summer.
