Beddenpan – Ca. 1850 - Working tool

Rare bedpan from around 1850.
The handle is thick wrought iron and the pan is copper.
All hand-forged, cut out and nailed. A fine piece of craftsmanship.

In winter bedpans were used to preheat the bed. Such a pan consisted of a flat, round iron or copper basin with a hinged lid and a few ventilation holes. It had a long metal or wooden handle and could be filled with hot stones, a shallow layer of boiling water, or glowing embers – which could not be slid between the sheets without risk ...

This lot has been carefully cleaned and will be packaged, sent by registered mail and insured (with a Track & Trace code so you can track the shipment). Pick-up in (Ridderkerk, South Holland) is also possible. I have delicious hand-ground coffee.
