Description from the seller
"VENETIAN BALLAD FOR GUIDI" by Rinaldo Frank Burattin (1914 - 1998)
Document of great relevance dated around the 1960s
The pen drawing on a napkin that depicts two giants of Italian art of the 20th century, both so inseparably linked to Venice:
Virgilio Guidi: We recognize him in the upper profile, with his sunken face and his intense, thoughtful expression.
Emilio Vedova: Portrayed at the lower right, it is unmistakable thanks to his famous thick beard and glasses.
A piece of history of the Venetian intellectual bohemia, probably born during a convivial evening among friends.
On the right the handwritten satirical poem:
“VENETIAN BALLAD FOR GUIDI
all of them crazy and mad
and we do not want them –
one day a son of a bitch said
NOW WE WILL SEE
The days pass
the wheels turn
will these idiots change their minds
They changed opinions
things changed
these 4 idiots will also change their minds.
Below the poem the signature: Pirro. the poem is probably a tirade directed at the critics of the time, composed during the heated debates about art that the two great masters represented.
At the bottom, another inscription reads: "Doubt... man or monkey?" with an arrow pointing to Emilio Vedova’s face, further underscoring the humorous and irreverent tone of the portrait.
It was probably done "live" in a restaurant or inn, places that in Venice were real centers of gravity for artistic debate.
Signed bottom right: Burattin
In good condition, matted, etc., except for some small stain, due to not being protected by glass.
