Miguel Ortiz Berrocal’s signed “Many more horses” pendant is a patinated bronze puzzle sculpture from 1976, produced in an edition of 5,000.
Description from the seller
Miguel Ortiz Berrocal (1933 - 2006), Spanish artist born in Andalusia, lived, among other places, in Tuscany. He was married to the German noble Maria Cristina Blais von Sachsen-Coburg Gotha und Breganza.
He designed many multiples that are interactive puzzles and very challenging. They usually consist of many parts that can be taken apart and reassembled in a variety of ways.
They can also be used as pendants.
Here we have the pendant "Many more horses."
Berrocal was inspired here by Picasso’s horse sculptures and he himself designed many horse sculptures.
Patinated bronze as a puzzle. Partly with red stones.
In a heavy metal frame.
Numered edition, edition 5000. Signed.
I cannot see which number it is; to see it I would have to take it apart, but I probably could not put it back together. See also photo.
The sculpture can be reassembled in 112 different ways.
Berrocal believed that sculptures should be perceived haptically/perceived by touch.
