This specimen comes from Les Farges, a lead mine near Ussel in Corrèze whose vein was already known in Gallo-Roman times but was only worked industrially, and briefly — from 1975 to 1981, one of France's smallest lead deposits — by the Société Minière de Corrèze. In that short window, Les Farges produced what many consider France's finest pyromorphite: an intense green, in an unusually wide variety of crystal forms, alongside notable fluorite, wulfenite and cerusite.
Here is a nice, very representative and rich specimen of pyromorphite on baryte with oxides from Les Farges!
Ex coll. Rollet family (Lyon).
The Rollet family owned several mines in Madagascar since 1920, prospecting for new deposits, mining and exporting minerals for industrial uses (mainly phlogopite) but also gemstone roughs and collectable specimens. Founder Marc Rollet was a very early mineral dealer in France. The collection features many specimens of historical and systematic interest from Madagascar, as well as a variety of French and international classics from the last century.
